On October 22, 2024, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 34-year-old female passenger involved in this collision had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 37th Traffic Fatality of 2024 as compared to 44 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation remains on-going.

On October 20, 2024, at about 8:22 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles occurred on Diamond Head Road, east of Poka Street, in the Kahala area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department that a 59-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on Diamond Head Road at a high rate of speed when it lost control and traveled into the westbound lane of Diamond Head Road and collided with another vehicle, which was parked alongside Diamond Head Road but had two occupants within.
As a result of the collision the 59-year-old male motorist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition, and his 34-year-old female passenger was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 28-year-old male occupant, of the parked vehicle, sustained minor injuries and, while at the scene, refused further treatment and his 26-year-old female passenger was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 59-year-old male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The 34-year-old female passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in this collision. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
