On April 02, 2024, at about 4:40 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a single motor vehicle, occurred on O’Malley Boulevard near the exit of Hickam Airforce Base in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 26-year-old male motorist and his 19-year-old female passenger were traveling eastbound on O’Malley Boulevard at a high rate of speed, when they came to a bend in the roadway and lost control and traveled onto the left shoulder and collided with the center concrete median.
As a result of the initial collision, the vehicle then went airborne and overturned numerous times before coming to final rest on its roof top.
As a result of the collision, the 26-year-old male motorist had to be extricated by the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD). The male was later transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 19-year-old female passenger also had to be extricated by HFD and was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
Neither of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
At this time speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
