On April 17, 2024, at about 10:21 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and three vehicles occurred on Kapukawai Street in the Royal Kunia area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 34-year-old female motorist was traveling northbound on Kapukawai Street when, for unknown reasons, she drifted towards the right side of the roadway and struck a parked vehicle. As a result of the first collision, the parked vehicle was pushed forward and struck a 57-year-old female pedestrian, who was in front of the parked vehicle. The parked vehicle continued forward, striking a second parked vehicle, leaving the pedestrian pinned between the two vehicles.
As a result of the collision, the 57-year-old female pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 34-year-old female motorist remained on scene and was not injured.
At this time speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is on going.
