On May 8, 2024, at about 07:46 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred involving one SUV and four occupants. The collision occurred in the area of Paakea Road and Mailiilii Road in the Maili area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 35-year-old female motorist was traveling westbound on Paakea Road and attempting to turn left onto Mailiilii Road when she lost control and collided with a wooden pole which was located in the road shoulder.
As a result of the collision, the 35-year-old female driver suffered head injuries. A juvenile passenger suffered head and hip injuries.
The 35-year-old female driver was taken by EMS to an area hospital in critical condition, but was upgraded to serious condition shortly after while at the hospital. The juvenile passenger was also taken to an area hospital in critical condition, and was also upgraded to serious condition while at the hospital.
A 41-year-old male passenger and another juvenile passenger were also in the vehicle at the time of the collision, but were not injured.
None of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
