On May 09, 2024, at about 12:20 P.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle occurred on the H-1 Freeway, eastbound, near the Kunia Road Off-Ramp, in the Waipahu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 19-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the H-1 Freeway, when it’s operator attempted to overtake a vehicle, lost control and collided into a metal guardrail.
As a result of the collision, the 19-year-old motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway.
The 19-year-old motorcyclist was then taken to an area hospital in serious condition. While at the hospital his condition later deteriorated and he was then listed in critical condition.
The 19-year-old motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
