On June 17, 2024, at about 10:51 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving two large trucks and two small sedans occurred on the H-1 Freeway East, West of the Kaonohi Street overpass, in the Pearl City area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a male motorist operating a large flatbed truck was traveling eastbound on the H-1 Freeway East when he collided with large freight truck that was operated by a male motorist. The collision caused the freight truck to roll forward and collide with a small sedan that was being operated by a female motorist. That small sedan then rolled forward and collided with another small sedan operated by a female motorist.
As a result of the collision, the male motorist who was operating the large flatbed truck sustained leg injuries and was then taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The three other drivers and two passengers were not injured.
At this time speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
