On January 31, 2023, at about 6:45 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist occurred in the area of Farrington Highway, near Mokuleia Beach Park.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a Toyota truck operated by a 19-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway. As the truck attempted to over-take a vehicle, it drove into the opposite bound lane and struck a bicyclist.
Following the initial impact, the truck lost control and over-turned.
The 37-year-old male bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 19-year-old motorist incurred minor injuries and refused further medical treatment.
Speed, drugs, and alcohol did not appear to be factors in this collision.
