**ORIGINAL**
On Friday, October 27, 2023, at about 5:40 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a truck and a pedestrian occurred on Kuakini Street east of Bachelot Street in the Nu’uanu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 57-year-old male was reversing out of Bachelot Street to drop off a garbage container on the side of the road. After dropping off the garbage container, he discovered an adult female lying on the roadway, fronting his vehicle. The female pedestrian, who has yet to be identified, was outside of a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred.
As a result of the collision, the unidentified female pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 57-year-old male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision on the part of the male motorist.
The investigation is ongoing.
