On April 26, 2022, the Medical Examiners Office notified the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that the male pedestrian who was involved in a collision that occurred on April 20, 2022, at 2:13 A.M. in the area of Kamehameha Highway and Makao Road in the Hauula area had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 17th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 16 at this same time in 2021.

On April 20, 2022, at about 2:13 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the Hauula area. It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 59-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway, when a 45-year-old male pedestrian appeared in the roadway. The 59-year-old male motorist was unable to stop his vehicle in time and collided into the 45-year-old male pedestrian who was not in a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 45-year-old male pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 59-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, alcohol, nor drugs appear to be a contributing factor in the collision on the part of the 59-year-old male motorist. It is unknown if they are factors on the part of the 45-year-old male pedestrian.
