On February 20, 2023, at about 12:30 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred on the H-2 Freeway northbound in the Wahiawa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 31-year-old adult male motorist, traveling northbound in the shoulder lane of the H-2 Freeway, collided with a 60-year-old adult male pedestrian who was walking southbound in the shoulder lane.
As a result of the collision, the 60-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 31-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
Upon further investigation, the 31-year-old male motorist was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant.
At this time, alcohol appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if speed or drugs are contributing factors.
