On April 23, 2024, at about 12:50 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred on Nuuanu Avenue, in the downtown Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 76-year-old male motorist, traveling southbound in the left lane of Nuuanu Avenue, collided with a 38-year-old male pedestrian that was lying in the roadway in the intersection of North Hotel Street.
As a result of the collision, the 38-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition where his condition deteriorated to critical condition.
The 76-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision on the part of the male motorist. Alcohol may be a contributing factor on the part of the male pedestrian.
The investigation is ongoing.
