On April 8, 2025, at about 2:10 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a single moped, occurred on Dole Street in the University area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 21-year-old male moped rider was traveling eastbound on Dole Street when, for unknown reasons, he lost control at the intersection of Lower Campus and was ejected onto the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the 21-year-old male was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 21-year-old male was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
