On January 25, 2023 at about 11:45 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving a single moped, occurred on Diamond Head Road in the Kapahulu Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 30-year-old adult male moped rider was traveling eastbound on Diamond Head Road when he lost control, veered right of the roadway, and struck the curb and a sign before being ejected onto the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the 30-year-old male moped rider was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition and was later downgraded to critical condition upon arrival at the hospital.
The 30-year-old male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in this collision. It is unknown if drugs are factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
