On May 24, 2024, at about 6:47 PM, a serious motor vehicle collision, involving a single moped, occurred on Farrington Highway in the Waianae area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 17-year-old juvenile female moped rider was traveling southbound on Leihoku Street and attempted to execute a left turn at the intersection of Farrington Highway, and collided with a metal guardrail, ejecting the juvenile female onto the grassy shoulder area.
As a result of the collision, the 17-year-old juvenile female was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition and later deteriorated and was listed in critical condition.
The juvenile female was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, it appears that speed may be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors
The investigation is ongoing.
