On June 5, 2021, at about 12:30 pm, a serious motor vehicle collision occurred on the Moanalua Freeway in the westbound direction in the Fort Shafter area.
A 2004 Nissan Armada, operated by an unknown male, collided into a 2018 Mitsubishi MPVH, that was operated by a 46 year old female. After the initial impact, both vehicles collided into the center concrete medial, scattering debris into the eastbound lanes, which caused damages to four other vehicles headed east on the freeway. After the collision into the center medial, the Mitsubishi overturned and landed in the eastbound lanes where it hit two other vehicles.
The 46 year old female operator of the Mitsubishi was taken to an area hospital and was listed as being in serious condition. The unknown male operator of the Nissan Armada fled the scene on foot. Some of the occupants from the other vehicles involved, sustained minor injuries.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision.
