On April 12, 2024, at about 10:24 AM, a fatal non-traffic motor vehicle collision occurred in the private parking lot of 521 Ala Moana Boulevard.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 57-year-old male motorist dropped off customers at Pier 2 and was notified by a bystander that his vehicle was moving forward. The 57-year-old male jumped in the driver’s seat and attempted to stop the vehicle. The 57-year-old male pressed the gas pedal instead of the brakes and collided with two concrete barriers and eleven pedestrians.
Three pedestrians were transported from the scene to Queens Medical Center for treatment. One was in critical condition, and the other two were in good condition.
While on the scene, the V.H.S. was notified that the pedestrian in critical condition had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Two other pedestrians were transported from the scene to the Tripler Hospital in good condition. Six pedestrians refused treatment on scene.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor to this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors to this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
