On October 19, 2023, at about 7:12 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred at the westbound off ramp of Ali’i Nui Drive in the Ko Olina Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, a 25 year old female motorist and her passenger a 38 year old male were traveling westbound on Farrington Highway and upon exiting at the Ali’i Nui Drive off ramp, the female motorist failed to negotiate a bend in the roadway and traveled up the grass embankment and sideswiped a palm tree.
The female motorist continued on and collided head on with a second palm tree. As a result of the second collision, the vehicle rolled over onto its passenger side coming to final rest. The female motorist was pinned inside the vehicle and had to be extricated.
The 25 year old female motorist succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
The 38 year old male passenger was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors of this collision.
Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
This is the 3rd Non Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 0 at this same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
