On October 15, 2023, at about 7:30 PM, a serious Hit and Run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on South King Street in the University area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an unidentified motorist was heading eastbound on South King Street when it disregarded the red traffic signal and struck a 28-year-old adult male pedestrian who was crossing South King Street, in a marked crosswalk. The unidentified motorist fled the scene of the collision without stopping to render aid or provide information. The vehicle was subsequently located parked and unoccupied near the scene of the collision. The motorist has yet to be identified.
As a result of the collision, the 28-year-old adult male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
