On June 30, 2023, at about 12:55 AM, a serious hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred in the area of Nimitz Highway and Sand Island Access Road in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section that a 42-year-old male moped operator was traveling eastbound on Nimitz Highway when he was struck from behind by an unknown motorist who has yet to be identified.
The unknown motorist continued eastbound on Nimitz Highway, fleeing the scene of the collision.
As a result of the collision, the 42-year-old male who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time it is unknown if either speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.
