On August 22, 2023, at about 9:30 PM, a serious hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the area of Prince Edward Street and Uluniu Avenue in the Waikiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section that an unknown motor vehicle was traveling the wrong direction on Prince Edward Street. When the unknown motor vehicle struck a 18-year-old male pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the street, outside of a marked crosswalk. The unknown motorist has yet to be identified.
The unknown motorist continued eastbound on Prince Edward Street made a right turn onto Uluniu Avenue, fleeing the scene of the collision without stopping to render aid or provide information, possibly driving a black multipurpose vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the 18-year-old male was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time it is unknown if either speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.
