On July 4, 2024, at about 3:33 AM, a serious hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Farrington Highway in the Waianae area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 51-year-old male moped rider was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway when an unidentified motorist attempted to overtake the 51-year-old male moped rider and struck him.
The unidentified male motorist continued traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 51-year-old male moped rider was ejected onto the roadway.
The 51-year-old male moped rider was transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 51-year-old male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time speed, appears to be a contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if either drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
