On August 4, 2024, at about 1:12 AM, a serious hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Makakilo Drive in the Kapolei area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 25-year-old male moped rider was traveling northbound on Makakilo Drive when an unidentified motorist rear-ended the 25-year-old male moped rider.

The unidentified motorist continued traveling northbound on Makakilo Drive without stopping to render aid or provide information.

As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old male moped rider was ejected onto the roadway.

The 25-year-old male moped rider was transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.

The 25-year-old male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol are factors in this collision.
