On September 8, 2023, at about 9:20 PM, a serious hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the area of Kiwila Street and Ahe Street in the Palolo area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section that an unknown motor vehicle was traveling westbound on Kiwila Street, when it struck a 12-year-old juvenile male pedestrian, who walked northbound across the roadway in a marked crosswalk.
The unknown motorist fled the scene of the collision without stopping to render aid or provide information, and was subsequently located away from the scene and was identified as a 16-year-old juvenile male motorist.
The 16-year-old juvenile male motorist was placed under arrest for Collisions Involving Substantial Bodily Injury and was not injured as a result of the collision.
As a result of the collision, the 12-year-old juvenile male pedestrian was transported, via Emergency Medical Service, to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time, it is unknown if either speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors in this collision.
