On January 2, 2023, at about 05:57 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision, involving a pedestrian, occurred on Keolu Drive in the Kailua area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an 85-year-old adult male motorist, traveling eastbound on Keolu Drive, collided with an adult female pedestrian who has yet to be identified who was attempting to cross the roadway.
As a result of the collision, the unidentified adult female pedestrian was transported, via Emergency Medical Services, to an area hospital in critical condition where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The adult female pedestrian was within a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The 85-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, alcohol, or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
This is the 1st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 0 during the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
