On January 2, 2025, at about 6:45 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist occurred in the Kaaawa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 31-year-old female motorist and her 33-year-old passenger were attempting to turn from Makua Village Road onto Kamehameha Highway when they collided with a 22-year-old male motorcyclist and his passenger a 21-year-old female who was traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway.
As a result of the collision, the 22-year-old male motorcyclist and his 21-year-old female motorcycle passenger were both ejected onto the roadway.
The 22-year-old male motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The 21-year-old female motorcycle passenger was transported to an area hospital in serious condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 31-year-old female motorist and her 33-year-old passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of this collision.
The 22-year-old male motorcyclist and the 21-year-old female passenger were both wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 1st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 0 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation is ongoing
