It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that on March 4, 2024, a 78-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on Lanikuhana Avenue when he traveled off of the roadway and collided with a tree.

As a result of the collision, the 78-year-old motorist was then taken to an area hospital in good condition. While at the hospital, the 78-year-old males condition slowly deteriorated. 

On April 24, 2024, the Vehicular Homicide Section was informed by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the 78-year-old male motorist had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. 

At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in this collision.

This is the 10th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 17 at the same time in 2023.

The investigation is ongoing.
