On March 12, 2023, at about 12:50 AM, a fatal single motor vehicle collision occurred on the Palama Street off ramp in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 59-year-old adult male motorcyclist, traveling westbound on the H1 Freeway, at a high rate of speed, for unknown reasons the motorcyclist took the Palama Street off ramp, lost control of the motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is ejected and collided into a tree.
As a result of the collision, the 59-year-old adult male motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol are contributing factors in this collision.
This is the 13th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 14 during the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
