On June 1, 2024, at about 1:55 A.M, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist occurred in the H-1 Freeway, westbound, in the Waipahu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 50-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway, when he began to slow down due to a previous motor vehicle collision that had just occurred and was rear ended by a 44-year-old male motorcyclist, traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway, at a high rate of speed.
As a result of the collision, the 44-year-old male motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 44-year-old male motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 50-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital in good condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors in this collision.
This is the 13th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 25 during the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
