On June 4, 2024, at about 1:30 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist occurred on Kalanianaole Highway near Ulupii Street in the Kailua area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a juvenile male motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Kalanianaole Highway at a high rate of speed when he traveled over a speed hump, lost control and was ejected into a guardrail.

As a result of the collision, the juvenile male motorcyclist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The juvenile male motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.

This is the 14th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 26 at the same time in 2023.

The investigation is ongoing.
