On July 14, 2024, at about 4:36 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles occurred on Kaukonahua Road, just south of Kaamooloa Road, in the Waialua Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that an adult male motorist and his adult male front seat passenger, both who have yet to be identified, were traveling northbound on Kaukonahua Road when for unknown reasons the male operator drifted off of the roadway onto the right grassy shoulder, then veered back onto the roadway and into oncoming traffic.
The male motorist and his passenger then collided head-on with a 41-year-old female motorist traveling southbound on Kaukonahua Road.
As a result of the collision, the adult male operator had to be extricated by the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD). The male was later transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The adult male passenger succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 41-year-old female motorist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
Both the adult male operator and the 41-year-old female motorist were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. However, the adult male passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.
At this time, speed is a possible contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol are factors.
