On April 29, 2023, at about 11:45 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred involving a pedestrian Nimitz Highway in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 59-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound onto Nimitz Highway, when he collided with a 70-year-old male pedestrian who was in the crosswalk at the time of the collision, walking against the “Don’t Walk Sign”.
As a result of the collision, the 70-year-old male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision.
This is the 22nd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 18 during the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
