On July 18, 2024, at about 2:05 A.M, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorist and a pedestrian occurred on Kamehameha Highway, in the Kaneohe area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 75-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway when he struck a 32-year-old female pedestrian who was walking partially in the roadway. As the 32-year-old female lay in the roadway, she was subsequently struck by an unknown vehicle who left the area without rending aid or providing information.
As a result of the collision, the 32-year-old female succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 75-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of this collision.
The second vehicle involved has yet to be identified. Per witnesses at the scene, the vehicle is possibly a commercial dump truck type vehicle.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors.
This is the 23rd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 28 during the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
