On July 26, 2024, at about 6:20 P.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorist and a motorcyclist occurred on Kapiolani Boulevard, in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 19-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Kapiolani Boulevard when it broadsided a vehicle being driven by a 36-year-old male motorist that was traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard and had initiated a left turn within the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard and Paani Street.
As a result of the collision, the 19-year-old male motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene.
The 36-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of this collision.
The 19-year-old male motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
At this time, speed, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
This is the 24th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 28 during the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
