On May 4, 2023, at about 05:50 AM, a fatal motorcycle collision occurred in the Wahiawa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 23-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Wilikina Drive at a high rate of speed when he broadsided a 23-year-old motorist that was exiting a residential area and attempting to turn onto Wilikina Drive.
As a result of the collision, the 23-year-old adult male motorcyclist was transported, via Emergency Medical Services, to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 23-year-old male motorist suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.
The 23-year-old male motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
This is the 25th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 18 at the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
