On July 16, 2021, at approximately 1:35 p.m., a major motor vehicle collision occurred in the Honolulu area involving a motorcycle and a commercial truck.
A Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by a 26 year old male, was traveling southbound on Elliott Street. For unknown reasons, the motorcyclist lost control and veered into the northbound lanes on Elliott Street.
The commercial truck, driven by a 29 year old male, was traveling northbound on Elliott Street and struck the motorcyclist. The operator of the commercial truck remained on scene and was not injured. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It appears that speed, on behalf of the motorcyclist, may be a contributing factor in this collision. At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision. It appears that speed, drugs, or alcohol were not contributing factors in the collision, on behalf of the operator of the commercial truck.
This is the 26th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 25 at this same time last year.
