On June 15, 2023, at about 11:40 PM, a fatal single motor vehicle collision occurred on the H-1 East Freeway in the Aiea area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an unidentified adult male motorist was traveling eastbound on the H-1 Freeway, when for unknown reasons he veered right of the roadway, traveled up an embankment and collided into a metal signpost, partially ejecting the adult male onto the grassy embankment.
As a result of the collision, the adult male motorist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The adult male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are factors.
This is the 27th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 23 during the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
