On September 15, 2026, at about 12:10 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on the H1 Freeway West in the Airport area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 23 year-old male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on the H1 Freeway West at a high rate of speed, when it lost control, and rear ended a 47 year-old male motorist. 

As a result of the collision the 23 year-old male motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. 

The 23 year-old male motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. 

The 47 year-old male motorist also sustained injures and was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition. 

At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of the collision. At this time it is unknown if drugs, or alcohol is a contributing factor of this collision.

This is the 29th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 63 at the same time in 2025.

The investigation is ongoing.
