On January 29, 2023, at about 6:50 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle occurred in the Kaneohe area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 36-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on the H3 Freeway. While in the area west of the Kamehameha Highway Off-Ramp, the vehicle lost control on a wet surface and veered off the roadway and onto an embankment and over-turned.

The operator of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead.

Speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It was unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors.

This was the 3rd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 4 at the same time in 2022.
