On September 13, 2024, at about 8:45 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the area of Kaukama Road and Kulauku Street in the Maili area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 68-year-old female motorist was stopped alongside Kaukama Road when the 68-year-old female motorist attempted to re-enter the westbound traffic lanes of Kaukama Road and struck an 88-year-old male pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 88-year-old male pedestrian sustained head injuries and was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition
The 68-year-old female motorist was not injured and remained on the scene.
On September 13, 2024, at about 2:35 PM, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, was informed by the Medical Examiner that the 88-year-old male pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
At this time, speed, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
This is the 31st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 41 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
