On September 18, 2024, at about 10:30 P.M., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of Farrington Highway and Laaloa Street in the Kapolei area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 61-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on Farrington Highway and attempted to turn left into Laaloa Street, against an illuminated red arrow signal and into the path of a 34-year-old female motorist who was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway.
As a result of the collision, the 61-year-old male motorist was transported, via Emergency Medical Service, to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The 61-year-old male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
As a result of the collision, the 34-year-old adult female motorist was transported, via Emergency Medical Service, to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor of the 61-year-old motorist.
This is the 32nd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 41 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
