On September 24, 2024, at about 06:50 A.M., a fatal pedestrian motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of Kamehameha Highway and Pupukea Road in the Pupukea area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a juvenile male motorist was traveling westbound on Kamehameha Highway when he lost control of his vehicle.
The vehicle traveled off the roadway onto the unimproved shoulder and collided with two pedestrians, a 70-year-old female and a 68-year-old female, who were walking alongside Kamehameha Highway.
The 70-year-old female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 68-year-old female pedestrian sustained minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.
The juvenile male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors to this collision.
This is the 33rd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 42 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
