On August 13, 2023, at about 9:10 PM, a fatal pedestrian motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of North Nimitz Highway onto the H-1 Freeway westbound in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a motorist was traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway and collided with a 54-year-old adult male pedestrian attempting to cross the H-1 Freeway.
The unknown motorist fled the scene of the collision and has yet to be identified.
As a result of the collision, the 54-year-old adult male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
This is the 35th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 29 at the same time in 2022.
