On August 15, 2023, at about 9:30 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Makakilo Drive and Kohohale Street in the Makakilo area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 24-year-old adult male motorist was traveling northbound on Makakilo Drive when for unknown reasons, he traveled left of the roadway, over the curb, and collided into a tree in the center median.

As a result of the collision, the adult male motorist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The adult male motorist was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

At this time, it appears that speed may be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs is a factor.

This is the 36th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 29 during the same time in 2022.

The investigation is ongoing.
