On October 31, 2024, at about 4:45 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist occurred on Kamehameha Highway near Ke Nui Road in the Haleiwa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 26-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway behind a 27-year-old female motorist when he attempted to overtake the female motorist, who was directly in front of him.
As the 27-year-old female motorist attempted to make a left turn from Kamehameha Highway onto Ke Nui Road, she was broadsided by the 26-year-old male motorcyclist in his overtaking attempt.
As a result of the collision, the 26-year-old male motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway.
The 26-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 26-year-old male motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 27-year-old female motorist sustained minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital in good condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 39th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 47 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
