On November 5, 2024, at about 8:50 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Hui Kelu Street north of Aka Place, in the Kaneohe area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department that a 23-year-old male motorist and his passengers a 23-year-old male and a 21-year-old male were traveling northbound on Hui Kelu Street at a high rate of speed when the 23-year-old motorist lost control and traveled into the southbound lanes of Hui Kelu Street and collided with another vehicle, which was parked and unoccupied.
The 23-year-old male motorist then struck another vehicle, which was also parked and unoccupied, and then collided with a rock wall before coming to final rest.
As a result of the collision, the 23-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Both the 23-year-old male passenger and 21-year-old male passenger were transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
The vehicle’s occupants were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in this collision. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors.
This is the 40th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 48 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
