On November 15, 2023 at about 1:40 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred in the Kahaluu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 20-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway at a high rate of speed. The 20-year-old male motorist crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a wooden utility pole and street sign on the shoulder of the roadway. The 20-year-old male motorist continued northbound in the southbound lane and collided with a another wooden utility pole on the shoulder of the roadway.
The 20-year-old motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
As a result of the collision, the 20-year-old motorist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time it appears speed and alcohol may be contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs were a contributing factor.
This is the 51st Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 46 at the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
