On December 21, 2024, at about 6:59 PM, a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred near the intersection of Rycroft Street and Ahana Street, in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 57-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on Rycroft Street, when he collided into a 81-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing Rycroft Street within a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 81-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in good condition. The 57-year-old male motorist was not injured.
On December 24, 2024, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 81-year-old male pedestrian involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision
This is the 52nd Traffic Fatality of 2024 as compared to 54 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation remains on-going.
