On December 2, 2023, at about 11:18 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of H-1 Freeway in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 27-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on H-1 Freeway at a high rate of speed near the Ward Avenue overpass. The 27-year-old male motorcyclist collides with a 22-year-old male motorist. The 27-year-old motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway and a 24-year-old male motorist collided with the 27-year-old motorcyclist.
The 27-year-old motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
As a result of the collision, the 27-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time it appears speed and alcohol may be contributing factors of this collision. It is unknown if drugs were a factor.
This is the 53rd Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 52 at the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
