On December 3, 2023, at about 5:43 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of Kalanianaole Highway and Nawiliwili Street in the Hawaii Kai area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 27-year-old female motorist was traveling westbound on Kalanianaole Highway and attempted to turn left onto Nawiliwili Street and collided with a 29-year-old male motorcyclist which was traveling eastbound on Kalanianaole Highway.
As a result of the collision, the 29-year-old motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway.
The 29-year-old motorcyclist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed later to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The 29-year-old motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 27-year-old female motorist and her 30-year-old male passenger were not injured and both remained at the scene of this collision.
At this time speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 54th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 52 at the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
