On December 31, 2023, at about 9:33 PM, a fatal single motor vehicle collision occurred on Kahekili Highway in the Kaneohe area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 59-year-old adult male motorist was traveling southbound on Kahekili Highway when, for unknown reasons, he traveled left of the roadway, crossed over the northbound lanes, down a slight embankment, and collided into a tree.
As a result of the collision, the adult male motorist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The adult male motorist was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs is a factor.
This is the 57th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 56 during the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
